GFT are seeking community partners and consulting with local people and groups to establish the need for local cinemas in the West Central Scotland area. Through movies and using new digital technologies, GFT working in partnership with local groups, want to bring the highest quality of big screen cinema back to local communities. It’s not just about blockbuster movies, though these will be an important part of the programme, it’s about bringing communities together and using film to address concerns and issues that we face in the 21st century.
The films that will be shown are important, but its the other activities that each venue will provide which will make them unique - there are plans for screenings for families, ‘silver screen’ events for older people, parent & baby clubs, filmmaking for young and old, teen movies, local films, school screenings, after school clubs, and a smattering of arthouse films too.
Our plan is to raise funding to establish 6 - 8 local cinemas and provide a programme of support and guidance from GFT. GFT is a member of the UK Film Council’s Digital Screen Network and the projection equipment planned for the local cinemas is the same standard as that provided by the UKFC and currently used in GFT Cinema 1.
